Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town is a sequence of stories by Stephen Leacock, first published in 1912. It is generally considered to be one of the most enduring classics of Canadian humorous literature.

The Mariposa Bank Mystery is the ninth story from this collection, and focuses on the despair of Mr. Pupkin and his hopeless love for Zena Pepperleigh, the daughter of the local Judge. As he decides to give up on life, circumstances present an opportunity to become the local hero, at least for a day.

Born in England in 1869, Stephen Leacock moved to Canada when he was six and is still revered as one of the country’s greatest humorists.

Listening time: 32 min. 40 sec.
